Reports to: Production Manager
The Globe theatre is seeking a Technical Director for the period of March through to June 5th, with a potential for a mutually agreed upon extension period.
The Technical Director works in a team environment with the Globe Theatre’s other Technical Director and the Production Manager. In conjunction with the PM, the TDs are the front line in advancing the creative team’s vision in each production.
While advancing the production’s vision, the TD will not only manage the process but will maintain the highest possible production standards, while ensuring the safety of the crews, actors, staff and audiences of the Globe Theatre. They are responsible for providing assistance and oversight to all production depts. Typical duties include; completing construction drawings where necessary, setting crew requirements for builds, supervising load-ins/outs, supervising the build and construction of pieces used in the production, as well providing leadership during the tech rehearsal period. Some hands-on assistance especially in the areas of specialized effects, or rigging elements, within each production may be required.
Candidates should have a minimum 2 years working as a Technical Director, or in a similar position, and have a comprehensive knowledge of the production process, theatrical equipment, and stage technologies.
Working closely with the Department Heads in all areas, the TD will also assist the Production Manager in management of the production budgets.
The position is a short-term employment position. If the successful candidate normally works as an independent (freelance) contractor, a sort-term contract will be considered.
